Winthrop University's First Collegiate Curls Meeting

Collegiate Curls of Winthrop has officially commenced! Our first meeting went fantastic! We had over 50 young men and women come inspect their interests in all things hair, skin, health, and positivity! We participated in an icebreaker with questions about our hair, with questions like “how long have you been natural or considering to go natural?” or “what are some of your favorite hair care products?” We all got to know and relate to each other while learning new facts about our hair!

We also illustrated our mission in a unique way. By showing the Dove Love Your Curls video, everyone was able to see a visual representation of our goals and mission: to UPLIFT, EMPOWER, and SUPPORT. Just as our mission states, we will unify with each other through common ground, events promoting self-confidence, love, positivity, and learning about our hair!

During the meeting, we discussed how to qualify as a member, how frequently we will have meetings, how to submit an article to the website, and the My Sister’s Keeper community service project. We concluded with a quick hair tip and spoke about our upcoming events. Thank you to everyone who attended the meeting, expressed interest in the organization and our upcoming events.   • Collegiate Curls General Body Meeting - February 13th @ 6pm in the lobby of Plowden Auditorium in Withers

  • This will be a brief meeting to collect dues followed by our first collaboration!

  • Traveling Through Time with NAACP - February 13th @ 6:30 PM in Plowden Auditorium

  • A Tale of the Evolution of African-American Culture!

  • Afros & Cupid Bows - Natural Hair & Relationship Panel - February 19th @ 6:30 PM (Location TBA)

  • Relationship panel discussing natural hair and how it affects relationships!

  • Positive AFROmations - February 14th

  • Give a positive, sweet note to someone of your choice!

  • Collegiate Curls General Body Meeting - February 27th @ 6pm in Sims 215
