Maintaining Healthy Curls in the Winter!

Hi everyone! So, cooler weather has finally rolled in. Along with this temperature change, our hair will be changing as well. Typically during the fall and winter months, natural hair tends to dry out and may even be harder to manage. But, don’t fear! I’m going to share some hair tips on how to manage your hair better so that you can keep those poppin’ curls. 1. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! I know this an obvious ones, but I cannot stress how VITAL it is to combat dry, brittle and frizzy hair with a good moisturizing regimen. I would suggest doing a deep conditioner either every week, or every other week (depending on your hair type). Deep conditioning helps to reducing breakage and fix damaged hair, and maintains the health of your hair. There are plenty of awesome deep conditioners to choose from out there (be on the lookout for some product reviews). Another easy way to moisturize your hair is finding the right products for your hair type. If you’re anything like me, you probably have a cabinet (or two) full of hair products, ranging from lotions, gels, mousses, leave-in conditioners, oils, etc. Do some much needed fall cleaning and figure out what products works well with your hair, and which products are just a waste of space. 2. Protective styles This is definitely a tip that I need to do better with myself. Protective styles are so important for protecting your hair from harsh weather and promoting hair growth. And the best part about it: there are soooo many cute options to choose from! Braid-outs, twist-outs, Bantu-knots, box braids, locs, buns, cornrows...the possibilities are literally endless. Someone that I personally look to for curly hairstyle inspiration is Yara Shahidi. She can do no wrong when it comes to styling her hair. 3. Throw away the heat styling tools I know this one is a tough pill to swallow; it hurts me too, sis. BUT, it needs to be done. Stay away from heat! That means straightening your hair as little as possible, stay away from using curling tools to define your natural curls, and if you have to diffuse, use the cooler setting. 4. Be mindful of what you put into your body Not only will this tip help with keeping your hair healthy, but it will also help with your overall physical and mental being. I know you hear this all of the time, but water is so important. Drink as much as you can, whenever you can. It will cleanse your body and also moisturize it from the inside out. Also, eat well! Create a healthy meal plan that is tasty, but also good for you and your body. Lastly, make a habit of taking vitamins that help with the strengthening and growth of your hair. I use Nature’s Bounty Hair, Skin & Nail Gummies, and it works wonders! Your curls can be poppin’ all year round. It’s just a matter of altering your daily regimens and knowing how to maintain a healthy lifestyle for yourself. Just because the temperature is dropping doesn’t mean your hairs good health has to!
