Locs Craze

It’s a New Year and it’s time for some new hair! Whether you’re starting with combs coils or two strand twists, locing your hair is something that’s coming up really fast in the natural hair community.

-How should I start my Locs?

Regular Locs- The majority of locs you see daily are regular locs. Which people usually start by comb coils or two strand twists.

Instant Locs- Which involve using human hair to make an extension that you attach to the hair.

Sister Locs- Micro locs which are tightened using a latch hook tool or crochet hook. There are usually 200 plus locs in someone’s hair that is sister loc’d.

-Some things to know before locing your hair

Unless you get instant locs the locing processes will take a few months. Like your mom always says patience is a virtue, because to loc your hair is going to take some patient waiting. But with that being said the locing process is fun and freeing, which is why so many people are locing their hair. They love being able to just wake up in the morning shake their hair and go.

The greatest thing most loc’d naturals look forward to when they are about loc their hair is that they can finally downsize on products. A lot of loc’d naturals just need shampoo, leave-in conditioner, loc gel, oil, and water. With that being said you need products that work with your hair or it is going to flake and cause buildup in your locs.

-Some of my favorite products to use and popular products

My number one go-to shampoo is Dr Bronner’s Tea Tree soap diluted with some water. It gets rid of any build up that I have and since it has tea tree oil in it, it promotes hair growth. A leave-in conditioner I recently started using and that my locs are loving is the Alikay Naturals Lemongrass Leave In Conditioner. It’s made with aloe vera juice which my hair loves. For my oil I use a mixture of lemongrass oil, peppermint oil, lavender oil, eucalyptus oil, olive oil, grapeseed oil, and castor oil. Although I do not use any gel in my hair, I’ve seen nothing but great YouTube reviews of Afrolatinlocs (IG) SuperGro Hair gel. And last but never least WATER! WATER! WATER! Never put any products in your hair without hydrating it.
