HBCU campus queens are more than just a pretty face! From engaging initiatives and programs placed on their campuses, service oriented events, and representing their University with grace, poise, and class, being a campus Queen goes far beyond solely wearing the crown.
This summer I had the wonderful pleasure to meet the Queen of THEE Jackson State University: Gabrielle Baker. With a campaign centered on Thee Real Experience at Jackson State she is able to touch the lives of everyone she meets, and leave a lasting impact on her campus!
Meet the 79th Miss JSU Gabby:

1. Tell us a little about yourself!
My name is Gabrielle Baker, and I am a Senior Mass Communications major with a minor in Political Science, hailing from Memphis, TN! In the future I plan to own my own television network that showcases blackness in every form!

2. What attracted you to Jackson State University?
Jackson State University possesses a family oriented atmosphere unlike no other. The smiling faces and loving hugs just captured me. When I stepped onto the campus I knew that not only have I found a home, but a home that I will be able to succeed in. To top all of that, Jackson State University has an impeccable standard of excellence that has stood the test of time.

3. How has your major/area of study impacted your platform and involvement on campus?
My platform is Thee Real Experience: Providing Real Service, Exemplifying Real Virtue, & Promoting Real Unity. With studying mass communication, it has shown me that everyone has the ability to reach the world around them in a positive and life changing way. That is why one of my ultimate goals with my platform is to reach further the campus of Jackson State and impact the world. Being involved on campus cultivated my platform. It proved to me that life is all about experiences, and people will never forget how you’ve made them feel.

4. You are involved in a lot of things, which one is the most meaningful to you? And how do you use your leadership skills to make an impactful change?
The most impactful organization I apart of is Blue Ambassadors. This organization main focus is student recruitment and I love the fact that I have the opportunity to bring other people to my “dear old college home”. My ability to effectively communicate and relate to people has brought so many beautiful freshman and transfer students to Jackson State.

5. What is one piece of advice you would like to give young black females as they journey through college?
Chase your purpose and love and appreciate where you are now. God has placed you where you need to be, and has equipped you with a purpose, a plan, a unique identity, and provision.
6. Any final words of wisdom for our readers?
The attitude of gratitude is the most important and by far the most life changing. Be grateful.
Thank you so much Gabby for your wisdom! Check out her Insecure inspired campaign video below!
