Kentucky Connect: Meet Nigel Marcellus!

At UK, there are many students who leave an impact on campus. However, there are far fewer who continue to do so after they leave. Nigel Marcellus is one of the few.

A UK alumnus having earned a bachelor's degree in Mass Communication and later gone on to earn his master's degree in Media Ventures from Boston University, Mr. Marcellus is wasting no time leaving his mark on Kentucky and the world beyond at the young age of 23.

We got the chance to sit down with Nigel to discuss one of his many initiatives: Find Your Comfort

CC: Describe the mission of Find Your Comfort

Mr. Marcellus: Find Your Comfort is an online outlet in which people can share their personal journeys and creative works.

What inspired you to start the organization?

Originally, Find Your Comfort came about from a class project aimed to recreate a more positive social networking site. I wanted people to be comfortable sharing their stories and their art in a safe environment/safe space.

The intention with which the program was started turned out to be too small for the content that people were ready and willing to post. So, I had no choice but to match the energy and grow the platform.

How did you go about putting your plan in action?

Creatively, I did research on different social media platforms and how people felt about them and reacted to them.

Since, I post the work on the website there’s no pressure to have your name in bold. I also only allow comments that are constructive, positive, & helpful. This creates a safe space culture.

Strategically, trial and error. Word press was doing the job until I wanted to create a more presentable website. So, I invested in a better form to create it.

What are your long term goals for Find Your Comfort?

I want to turn it into a foundation in order to gain more people to utilize the website, then allowing it to serve as a resource for students. I would like to integrate the program into schools.

Hearing other people’s stories, sharing their own stories, being able to share their own creative journey, or their own personal growth journey gives people hope.

How has Find Your Comfort impacted your life as a young creative/entrepreneur so far?

People told me that the program wouldn’t last, but I realized that what I create might help other people. I can’t stop creating because my work is actively helping other people. I can’t let myself, my family, my friends, or the people down.

How can the people get in touch with you and start getting involved with Find Your Comfort?

If you see me on campus, feel free to holla at me!

What would you like to see from Collegiate Curls this year?

I would like to see the resilience as a new organization on campus, because I know its not easy and its going to test every individual in the organization. If y'all mess up, recognize it, and figure out how you can do better! Build for the future because longevity is the goal.

Big thank you to Nigel Marcellus for sitting down with us and sharing his efforts! If you are a creative, or you simply have a story to tell, Find Your Comfort is there for you. Take advantage of such an awesome initiative.
