Mixed Chicks for not so Mixed Chicks?

With winter fast approaching, all of our curlfriends are searching for products to keep their curls hydrated and refreshed during the soon to come cold and drying temperatures.

As I myself am also one of those desperate for achieving juicy, moisturized, and of course...healthy hair throughout the forthcoming frosty season, I was able to try out two curl friendly products by the brand Mixed Chicks®.

Some background on Mixed Chicks® is that they were founded by two amazing women who saw a lack of products geared toward curlfriends of diverse ethnic backgrounds.

The two products I tried from their brand were the Curl Sculptor and their Replenishing Oil (I've posted pictures below) Overall both products were a good combo. After washing and deep conditioning my hair (I leave is soaking wet when I apply products), I sectioned it off and applied a leave in conditioner of my choice then applied the Replenishing oil, followed by the Curl Sculptor. The oil created a nice luminous shine and was not too heavy. The ingredients listed various different natural oils such as sunflower seed, soybean, and carrot seed, which all helps to stimulate growth and retain moisture. The Curl Sculptor had a somewhat jelly/watery texture and was extremely lightweight. I have 4a/4b curls with low porosity and while my hair can become weighted down easily I still need a enough weight to prevent frizz. I did love that the sculptor was not sticky and my hair didn't feel gross to touch afterwards. I ended up adding a thicker product to my hair to try and eliminate some frizz. I proceeded to three strand twist my hair and left it for about two hours just to let the products saturate into my hair (I'm not really sure if this is accurate science but it seemed right at the time). Overall, these products were of good quality. I would definitely recommend them to someone with a slightly looser curl pattern, just because it was too light to hold my curls, leading to more frizz. However, I will say I loved the end results, despite the frizz, my hair was very voluminous and fluffy. Sometimes more frizz is better! I give these products by Mixed Chicks® a thumbs up. Go out and try them for yourselves!
