Luxurious Locks with Prodigy's Luxury Hair

Jas Jeter is the next hot commodity on USC's campus with her new and innovating hair company, Prodigy's Luxury Hair. I was able to sit down and talk with this young entrepreneur and ask her a few questions about herself, her business, and get an inside look into the world of a flourishing new company owner.

Miss Jeter is a 22 year old Columbia native, in the first semester of her senior year at the University of South Carolina. She started her college career as a double major in accounting and marketing but eventually dropped accounting to focus solely on her passion for marketing.

Jas expressed to me that she has always had a passion for hair care and gave a brief recap of her natural hair journey. She expressed that she was always watching YouTube videos about hair and eventually started doing her own hair in the 6th grade. She made her first attempt to go natural in 7th grade however, she went back to relaxers soon afterwards. About six years later she finally made the decision to transition to natural for good and did a baby chop after a year of transitioning. She exclaimed that "I wish I would have done it ten years ago!"

When I asked Jas how her company got started, she explained that she spent majority of her life wearing weaves, watching hair videos, and learning about the ins and outs of the hair industry and the hair itself. As a child she always pursued some sort of business. From dog walking to raking leaves, she was constantly providing her services to those around her, so you could say that business is in her blood. She decided at the start of the school year, what better industry to pursue than one she had spent years learning and exploring.

The future of Jas' company looks very bright. She has lots of big plans. She told me that when she first embarked on this business endeavor she only planned to sell her hair locally through social media and word of mouth. With the quick expansion of her products she now aims to branch out towards a larger target audience in the future months and years.

Some of the toughest parts of this journey have been finding vendors that would set her apart from the rest of those in the market. Jas says she searched long and hard for a vendor that was consistent, reliable, and had quality products. She also was faced with many naysayers who doubted her ability to make a dent in a market as saturated as the hair industry.

Despite reservations from others and challenges getting started, Jas never let anything or anyone defer her dreams. "When I put my mind on something, I just do it!" Jas enthusiastically expressed to me. She also encouraged other young women and men who may be considering starting their own company to just do it! She says that she constantly tells her friends and peers to not think too hard on the things you want to pursue. Make the decision and chase after it!

Jas Jeter is one of many brilliant curl friends doing great things on USC's campus! If you would like more information on Prodigy Luxury Hair...
