NEWSFLASH! The Fellas Love Our Fro’s


Hey ladies, hope all is well! Since February is closely approaching I felt it was important to kick off the month of black history and love with some fro appreciation from the men that love us the most! It seems to be portrayed on social media frequently that men are our antagonists when it comes to rocking our curly styles and I thought it was important to remind you all that many men LOVE our hair in all patterns and lengths. Posted below is the dialogue I had with each gentleman. I hope you enjoy reading their positive responses as much as I loved recording them.

Name: Ezekiel

Occupation: Student Photographer

Age: 22

Ethnicity: Black/ Dominican

Amarra (Me): What do think about women who wear natural hair?

Ezekiel: I like it, I always liked natural hair.

Amarra: Is your mom natural?

Ezekiel: Yes, she is, I’m pretty sure all the women in my family are natural.

Amarra: Why do you think it’s difficult for some women to go, or wear there hear natural?

Ezekiel: Because they been made to feel that way from advertisements, and media… they always see more so processed hair, or long hair.

Name: Gregory

Student Athlete

Age: 21

Ethnicity: Black/ White/ Dominican

Amarra: What do think about women who wear natural hair?

Gregory: I mean, beautiful, if you wear your natural hair you’re beautiful even if you wear weave, you’re beautiful. If you can wear your natural hair you’re gorgeous

Amarra: What do you like about it?

Gregory: I mean, it looks so luscious … you can tell if she wearing a curly weave… even if it’s that grade A 200-300 weave you can just tell natural hair just has that color and that texture. I love it.

Amarra: Would you want your daughter to be natural?

Gregory: Um, yea at the beginning, it’s whatever she want[s]. If she wants to be natural. She [will] be natural until she hit middle school. Then she can do whatever with her hair

Amarra: Is your mom natural?

Gregory: Yea.

Amarra: Why do you think it’s difficult for some women to go, or wear there hear natural?

Gregory: It is time-consuming, I can understand that, but if you want it to look good you’ll take the time.

Amarra: What do think about women who wear natural hair?

Kameron: There is nothing wrong with it, I like it. It’s beauty. If it makes you feel confident wear it, don’t let your physical beauty define who you are.

Amarra: Why do you think it’s difficult for some women to go, or wear there hear natural?

Kameron: It all comes down to the self-confidence and how you represent yourself. For example, sometimes people look for approval from the outside, [and] it’s just leaning to accept yourself. It’s all psychological.

Amarra: What do think about women who wear natural hair?

Lawrence: I love it. I feel like it brings out the best in their selves. It shows their true personality. They seem more confident.

Amarra: Is your mom natural?

Lawrence: Yea, she natural…well sometimes.

Amarra: Why do you think it’s difficult for some women to go, or wear there hear natural?

Lawrence: They scared of what society think, you know they [think they’re] not the right image, they feel like they have to have long curly, or loose curl patterns.

Amarra: What do think about women who wear natural hair?

Denzell: They beautiful, with the short everything. I don’t hate people who wear weave either but I think natural is beautiful.

Amarra: Is your mom natural?

Denzell: Yea, she has dreads, yea.

Amarra: How long has she had dreads

Denzell: 2-3 years

Amarra: Why do you think it’s difficult for some women to go, or wear there hear natural?

Denzell: Some people just don’t like [their] natural hair, but it takes time. You have to be patient…It doesn’t grow the way they want it . Same with [men] they want waves but don’t want to put the time in. It doesn’t happen quick.
